Making the Difference for sick children in Raigmore Hospital

The Archie Foundation (Highlands & Western Isles)

our journey to an incredible new facility

August 2014

Our Inverness Courier backed appeal to build a new Highland Children's Unit at Raigmore Hospital is set to take a major step forward in September as work gets underway on the much anticipated new facility. The ARCHIE Foundation and NHS Highland have announced that there will be a special ceremony to mark the turf being cut on this transformational project on September 25th.

David Cunningham, chief executive of the ARCHIE Foundation, was delighted to confirm that construction work was set to begin. "When we first started our appeal in the Highlands the plan had been to raise one million pounds to redevelop the existing children’s ward and we had hoped to do that over two years. However, the public support for the appeal was so exceptional that both ARCHIE and NHS Highland were inspired to think bigger and consider realising a vision that none of us had ever thought possible – the creation of the Highland Children's Unit which will bring together all the children’s services, including out-patients, in a dedicated child-friendly unit with its own entrance.

“That's why we asked the public and companies of the Highlands to keep supporting us as we raised a further £1m towards the total cost of this project, which is also being funded by NHSH. We have now raised £1.5 million, three quarters of the total, so we are delighted that we are able to start construction work on the unit and greatly look forward to seeing the first children treated there in 2015".

The new ARCHIE Highland Children's Unit at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness will make a huge difference to local children. With your support, they could be treated there from August 2015.

the Difference

We don't fund anything the NHS should - we only provide the extras over and above the core NHS service to make a big difference for local children when they are in hospital.

in the highlands

Every penny we raise in the Highlands stays in the Highlands to support local children when they need us the most - when they are in hospital.

Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about this important appeal. I believe every child in the Highlands & Western Isles deserves the best possible care in the best possible place. The children's team at Raigmore Hospital are excellent but the facilities and environment don't always match that standard. With your support we can transform the journey of every child through the hospital. It is rare to have an opportunity to change the healthcare of an entire generation of children, maybe even more. Please give or do what you can to make this most incredible difference. Thank you.
